SS 304l stainless steel is one of the most versatile and commonly used stainless steel in the market. It is basically an austenitic chromium alloy also known as “18/8” stainless steel as it is made up of 18% chromium and 8 % nickel. The chromium content increases the material’s resistance to corrosion and oxidation. Stainless steel alloys are not damaged by oxidising acids and can resist rusting but that does not mean it will not tarnish over a period of time. The steel needs to be cold-worked to achieve a higher tensile strength. For stainless steel sections that are heavily welded, post-weld annealing may be required to provide maximum corrosive resistance.
